Next up in our series of twists on the classic Negroni, in honour of Negroni week, is bartender Adam’s intriguing mezcal-laced concoction.
Mezcal – like tequila – is made in Mexico from the agave plant, and specifically the maguey variety. It has been produced in much the same way for the last 200 years, but contrary to popular belief it does not contain any of the psychoactive drug mescaline. When used as a substitute for the gin in a Negroni it adds a lovely woody, smokey dimension to the drink and is well worth a try…
