January is a month of resolutions and fresh starts, and at Sub 13 we are no different. Our resolution for 2017 is no different to normal: be better than ever. But our fresh start is a little more serious than normal.
We have big plans for 2017, including a long-awaited expansion. But to pave the way for that and because we like to keep everything looking tip top we have embarked upon a three week renovation programme. The most noticeable change will be in the toilets, where the ladies has been doubled in size and the gents remodelled. We have also laid a new floor throughout and made lots of behind-the-scenes improvements to things like heating, water supply and electrical capacity.
These back-of-house changes are essential precursors to the very exciting expansion we have planned for spring. We will soon be spread across two floors, with two new bars in the rooms above the current Sub 13 venue. These will provide a level access from George Street straight into our fantastic garden! The bars themselves will be a departure from the Sub 13 look of exposed Bath Stone, dark wood and stainless steel. It will be more in keeping with the above ground space and will be a nod the adjacent terrace. They will have plenty of wow factor too, so watch this space over the next few weeks because we will be keeping you posted on progress and sharing some cheeky pictures.
We couldn’t write a blog post on our renovation and expansion works without mentioning the amazing team who are making all this possible: architects Simon Morray-Jones, main contractors McIntosh Design, Build & Restore, electrical contractors Page Electrical, plumbing and heating Brûler, carpentry BSA Group, refrigeration/ventilation Ice Tech Services and bar construction by Cantilever. They really are a crack team and come highly recommended!
We will see you when we re-open on January 26th, in the meantime here are some photos of progress so far…!
